An “outstanding” cancer center and a “category leading” linac are a winning combination for patients and a lethal blow to cancer

The UK’s Care Quality Commission, an independent regulator of health and social care in England, gave The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, an Outstanding rating. The Commission noted that “the hospital was a leader in the field of cancer care and pioneered new initiatives and procedures.” It’s only fitting that this leader should choose Elekta’s Versa HD™ linear accelerator (linac), which was ranked first in the Radiation Therapy category in the 2020 Best in KLAS: Software and Services Report.

The Christie provides networked radiotherapy services at three sites in Greater Manchester: Withington, Oldham and Salford, with a fourth site being developed at Macclesfield in Cheshire. The network relies on 16 linacs in order to provide local access to radiotherapy without patients having to travel a great distance. Through a recent order, The Christie will acquire four Versa HD systems, two upgrades at the Oldham site and two for the new Macclesfield site.

Versa HD offers high levels of accuracy, precision and efficiency, which in turn instills clinicians with great confidence to provide the best treatment. The Christie’s radiotherapy department should expect nothing less, given its reputation for research, innovation and world firsts. Indeed, the cancer center aims to deliver the highest quality care and treatment with real patient benefits, and Versa HD is perfectly suited to enable it to fulfill this ambition.

In addition to Versa HD, The Christie uses Elekta’s MOSAIQ® Oncology Information System to connect its network and improve the patient treatment pathway and increase communication across all sites. The Christie was a founding member of the global MR-Linac Consortium that helped develop Elekta Unity and is one of two centers in the UK to treat patients with this cutting-edge technology.
