When Elekta AB announced the CE marking of the Elekta Unity MR-linac system this June, it marked a momentous milestone in a long journey – spanning over a decade – to create and bring to market the world’s first device that combines high-field MRI and radiation therapy capabilities, and solves one of the most pervasive problems in cancer radiotherapy, motion management. Kevin Brown, physicist and global VP of scientific research at Elekta, was there at every step of the journey. Right from when the University of Utrecht approached the Swedish multinational company with its proposal for an MR-linac system, through to bringing on board the different partners of the research consortium that would drive technology development.
